MUTBI innovation award - Dr.Lijo has won a consolation prize

Dr.Lijo has won a consolation prize at the innovation showcase conducted by MUTBI,on 27th september 2012.Dr Lijo John is a second year postgraduate student at the Department of Orthodontics,MCODS ,Mangalore.The prize is for the innovation titled: L.S.M.M Head Strap Fluid Level Device for Natural Head Position.It is a device used for recording and transferring true horizontal on a lateral cephalogram which would aid in the standardisation of the radiographs.The device consists of a fluid level device attached to a head strap that is easily adjustable.The device is user friendly,cost effective ,can be easily fabricated and is precise in its recording.

Dr. Alex Lee won the first prize in the Subject of Paedodontics in Manipal University and this was awarded to him at the 34th Conference of the  Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry at Pattaya, Thailand

“Dr. Amit Yadav won 2nd prize for  his innovation -“Manipal carrier” on the innovation day conducted by Manipal University Technology and Business Incubator, Manipal held on 27th September  2012.
            Precise placement of materials inside the root canal can be very difficult due to the space constraints, various carriers available for this purpose are very expensive. “Manipal carrier” is a miniature carrier made using ordinary surgical needles which can be used effectively for precise placement of material inside the root canal.”

The Department of Public health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore  conducted a Mega oral health program for the employees of MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited), Mangalore. 
The program started with a oral health examination during the period of February 2012- April 2012 to identify their oral health status and treatment needs. On  14th October, 2012, an oral health education and treatment camp was organized by, Dr.Vaibhav Pravin Thakkar, Post Graduate student from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore in association with the MRPL-ONGC Karmachari Sangh (MOKC) 
Oral health education was done by a group of 15 final year students who performed a socio – drama with a ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’ theme to spread awareness regarding harmful effects of Smoking, Tobacco chewing and alcohol consumption. They even emphasized on proper oral hygiene practices to be followed for a good oral health. This was well appreciated by the audience. 

Dental treatment was provided at the Samudaya Bhavan, Ganeshpura, Kaikamba using the Mobile Dental Clinic of the College. Portable units were also used inside the hall. 

Oral prophylaxis, restorations and extractions were performed at the venue and those who needed advanced dental treatment were brought to the college on the next day using the college bus and their treatment was completed in the Comprehensive dental Clinic at Attavar. The program was a huge success.
